Temporary residents should review the following before registering to confirm their eligibility.
Study Permit Requirements
In addition to the admission requirements above, applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents should confirm whether they require a Canadian Study Permit:
- Programs longer than six months generally require a Study Permit
- Programs six months or less generally do not require a Study Permit, as per IRPR R188(1)(c), provided the program is completed within the period authorized upon entry into Canada Applicants already in Canada on valid temporary status (e.g., visitor or work permit) may enroll in programs of six months or less without a Study Permit, provided their status permits study and remains valid for the entire program duration. For more details, visit IRCC’s webpage “Study permits: Who needs a study permit”.
Immigration Support Letters
- For programs requiring a Study Permit, the Institute provides a Letter of Acceptance and DLI number to support the application (this is distinct from the Student Enrolment Contract)
- The Institute does not issue immigration support letters — including LOAs, Provincial Attestation Letters (PAL), or Study Permit Extension Letters (SPEL) — for part-time, short-term general interest, or fully online distance learning programs
- Your current immigration status must cover the entire duration of your studies
Online and Distance Learning
Fully online courses may be taken from outside Canada or while in Canada with valid immigration status. All remote learning students must meet the technology requirements described in the Admissions Requirements above.
Work Eligibility
Part-time, short-term general interest, and fully online distance learning programs do not provide eligibility for on-campus work, off-campus work, or Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP). Work permit holders may work only under the conditions of their permit.
